Management model
Well-being Project
Enhanced quality of life for greater efficiency
SELEX Sistemi Integrati promotes industrial process improvement policies to
link greater production efficiency with enhanced well-being of employees.
The backdrop is the awareness that workers - their professional
experience and cultural and emotional backgrounds alike - are a key factor of
the company management model centering around value creation.
In 2005, the company thus launched the "Well-being Project", to offer
staff innovative solutions and services, capable of harmonising their work
activity with their private lives, with a view to achieving the best
"work-life balance". One of the main initiatives of note is the setting
up of a nursery school at the Rome site. The "Well-being Project"
agenda also comprises the organisation of placements in Italy and abroad for
employees' children, along with in-house events, some typically
company-oriented, others of broader scope, such as the "Working Mother’s
(and Father’s) Day".
The Rome HQ "Nanna Bella" nursery
Inaugurated in September 2006, the "Nanna Bella" nursery at the
SELEX Sistemi Integrati Rome site is the first facility of its kind among the
FINMECCANICA Group companies. "Nanna Bella" is located within the
premises of the company headquarters, at the heart of the Tiburtino technology
district, covering a 3,000 square metre surface area.
Conceived in full compliance with the most advanced health, hygiene and
environmental rules, the nursery - a 700 square metre building in a spacious
garden area with an open-air playground - stands out sharply against its urban
surroundings, thanks to a distinctively expressive and unique architectural
style, in line with principles of clarity, simplicity and functionality. In the
eyes of visitors, the building appears as a sum-total of easily recognisable
volumes (cylinder, parallelepiped and triangle) which develop around a large
central cylindrical space, at the center of the nursery’s shared
activities.
From a psychological and educational point of view, the service provided by
“Nanna Bella” draws inspiration from a 'community care' educational model,
characterised by three objectives: full integration of the architectural
project with the educational project, promotion of the quality of life,
creation of a family support network.
In addition to the to the employees' children of this and other FINMECCANICA
Group companies, the nursery welcomes a group of children living within the
local Municipality. The success of this initiative has recently led to the
activation of an intermediate junior school, for children aged from three to
five.
Working Mother’s (and Father’s) Day
"Working Mother’s (and Father’s) Day" offers employees, especially
mothers, the opportunity to introduce their children to their parents’
workplaces.
SELEX Sistemi Integrati, in participating for the first time in the 2006 event,
has followed a constantly growing international trend: every year, in spring,
it opens the gates of its Italian sites to the young and very young, organising
guided tours, teaching activities and tailor-made entertainment.
Summer courses and partnerships abroad
During the summer, SELEX Sistemi Integrati promotes study vacations for
employees' children, with several teaching activities, including English
language courses. The company also organises placements in every country where
it has offices (besides Italy, the United Kingdom, Germany and the United
States), thus enabling employees' children from each of these four countries to
meet with cultural and work milieux different from their own.
