In an ever more competitive market, SELEX Sistemi Integrati believes that competitive advantage springs primarily from a capacity for technological innovation. It is no coincidence that the company invests considerable economic resources, amounting to approximately 20% of its production value, in Research & Development activities.
The scope for implementing innovation is not confined to the field of technology but involves all issues relating to the creation of products or services, such as customer support. It is clear, therefore, how important it is to safeguard and protect intellectual property by means of specific tools (patents, trade marks, copyrights, etc.); at SELEX Sistemi Integrati, this involves:
  • making the most of human capital (technical, organisational or other types of skills, plus development at the initiative of individuals or the company)
  • protecting and drawing full advantage from intangible capital (processes, know-how, patents, trade marks, copyrights, ongoing projects) with a view to the company’s “sustainable growth”
  • ensuring the company’s ability to equip itself with appropriate tools for satisfying customers’ needs
  • engraining respect for the work of individuals, partners, suppliers and competitors
In the light of these goals, SELEX Sistemi Integrati launched the “IPR Governance” project in 2005, an initiative operating in close coordination with FINMECCANICA and the Group member company projects going under the same name. "IPR Governance" has contributed significantly to the achievement of a particularly important result by SELEX Sistemi Integrati, namely the FINMECCANICA “Best Patent of the Year” award for 2007, thanks to the creation of a PHEMT (Pseudomorphic High Electron Mobility Transistor) power transistor, a technology used in new-generation radar equipment.
