On 12 February, at the prize-giving ceremony held in L’Aquila, at the Guardia di Finanza Station of Coppito, SELEX Sistemi Integrati was awarded the Finmeccanica Innovation Awards. SELEX Sistemi Integrati won one of the prizes awarded on an equal basis for devising a multifunctional integrated antenna, which opens the way for a new generation of radar and telecommunications systems. Partly thanks to its small size, it can be used as a radar, transmitter and/or receiver and for electronic countermeasures. This is a particularly advanced product, the fruit of ten years of research carried out by SELEX Sistemi Integrati photonic
unit.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has been awarded two contracts with a combined value of approximately EUR 100 million by TELEDIFE (the Italian General Directorate of Telecommunications, IT and Advanced Technologies). The first contract, which is worth EUR 63 million and was agreed with SELEX Sistemi Integrati as the prime contractor, will last four years and covers the supply of turnkey systems for seven radar site sand a coastal surveillance centre for the Italian Navy. The second contract, worth EUR 31 million, relates to the supply by SELEX Sistemi Integrati of two RAT31DL/M mobile air surveillance radar systems (DADR – Deployable Air Defence Radar) for the Italian Air Force.

At the Bahrain International Air Show, SELEX Sistemi Integrati signed a 15 million contract with the Bahrain Civil Aviation Authority (BCAA) for an ATCR33-S primary surveillance radar and two SIR-S secondary radars for the Bahrain International Airport. The near future prospects of growth in air traffic make the need for a smoother and safer air traffic management uppermost, and the new radars will ensure the requirement is met. A ten-year after-sale support for the systems is also provided for under the contract.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has signed two contracts for a total value of €7m with the Office National des Aéroports (ONDA), the Moroccan Air Service Provider. The Company will supply an air traffic control (ATC) radar system in Fes-Saiss airport and an air traffic management (ATM) simulator in Marrakech’s Menara airport. In 12 months, the Fes-Saiss radar station will be equipped with an ATCR33-S primary radar, a SIR-S secondary radar with a last generation mode S transmitter, and the relevant infrastructures and civil works.

SELEX Sistemi Integrati has received approval from the European Commission for financing two major R&D projects in the Homeland Security field, SEABILLA (net-centric architectures integrating different naval surveillance systems) and CUSTOM (photonic technologies applied to European customs' goods inspection requirements). The two projects, having a 20 million euro total value, will have SELEX Sistemi Integrati acting as leader of two international consortia formed by industries, enterprises as well as universities and research centres from ten European countries.

Finmeccanica has been awarded a contract for the supply of naval systems to be fitted onto the two new stealth patrol vessels known as “Falaj 2”, being ordered to Fincantieri by the United Arab Emirates navy. In particular, SELEX Sistemi Integrati has been chosen to supply naval systems and to integrate the combat system. The agreement also includes an option for two further vessels of the same class. SELEX Sistemi Integrati will provide IPN-S command and control systems, NA 30S fire control systems, KRONOS 3D radar systems and SIR-M secondary radar systems.
